Big Brothers Big Sisters National Organization
Big Brothers Big Sisters is considered the nation's premiere youth-service organization.
For nearly a century, we have been successful in creating and nurturing relationships between adults and children. Today, Big Brothers Big Sisters serves hundreds of thousands of children in 5,000 communities across the country. And we are continually growing: Our goal is to provide Bigs to one million children by 2010.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mohave County became an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America after the Interagency Council completed a two year application process in 1998. At that time Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mohave County became a program of the Interagency Council. The first Community-Based match was made in 1999. Since then, the program has expanded into the Site Based Program which takes place all the elementary schools middle schools in the Lake Havasu School District as well as Telesis Preparatory Academy.
There has been wonderful growth and community investment in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mohave County. Since 1998, over 1,400 mentoring relationships have been created. With the focus on the safety of youth and quality mentoring relationships, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mohave County has increased mentoring relationships and match length which means a longer and stronger impact on our youth. The interest continues to grow and, with the support of the community, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mohave County will continue to foster life long friendships.
The success of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mohave County is dependant on the volunteers serving as mentors, board members, and project assistants. In addition there are the community members that actively participate as donors through fundraisers and individual contributions. These supporters of Big Brothers Big Sisters take part in something “big.” They are a part of the “little moments” that make “big magic.” Community involvement is key in making mentoring relationships.
*Big Brothers Big Sisters Programs are available in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Staff and volunteers are working to expand mentoring programs into the Bullhead City and Kingman communities in Mohave County. |
